Oh, My – Mint Matcha!

I tend to get stuck in (pretty deep) ruts. When I find something that I like and that works for me, I go with it — and keep going and going and going with it. I’ve been drinking the same 3 flavors of GotMatcha organic matcha green tea blends for almost 10 months now because I love them, but I decided it was time to try a new flavor. Enter MINT Matcha!


It. Was. Amazing!!!!!!!! So cool and refreshing. It reminds me of the “vanilla mint” flavors of chewing gum that I like so much.

I’ve tried a few other blends — some I’ve liked and some I haven’t. The lemongrass-ginger blend is supposed to be great for weight loss, but I just couldn’t take the flavor. The chai and super berry flavors are good, but I love my “big 3” (cacao, mocha, and pumpkin spice) so much I rarely stray from them. But this mint blend is now going to make my “big 3” into the “big 4.”



I mix 1 tablespoon of the matcha blend with 2 parts water and 1 part vanilla almond milk and shake it all up in a blender bottle. It froths up really nicely. You can get bamboo whisks specifically for frothing up matcha and I don’t have one of those, so my froth bubbles down after a minute or two whereas I think if you use the bamboo whisk it froths higher and stays longer. I’m okay with less froth because I tend to chug it down pretty quickly anyway.


Most of the timeΒ I just drink it right from the blender bottle, but sometimes I pour it into something a little more fancy just for kicks.

I’ve gotta say, this mint matcha is SO refreshing on a hot summer day! I’m totally planning on experimenting with recipes for mint matcha milk shake or mint matcha flavored ice cream. I’ll share them here if they’re as tasty as I think they’ll be.

My Experience with Matcha

I can’t rave enough about the positive benefits of matcha green tea. It is one of the four components of my health and fitness plan: 1) Drinking 100+ oz of water every day (and no soda, alcohol, coffee, etc.); 2) Eating 6 small meals per day, and trying to stick to clean eating; 3) Working out 6 times per week at Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping (3 kickboxing days and 3 resistance training days); and 4) Drinking 2+ servings of matcha green tea every day.

Since I’ve started all of this about a year ago, I have lost about 15 pounds, lost tons of inches and become so much stronger and leaner. I feel really good and healthy and I rarely if ever get sick (knock on wood!). I was doing the first 3 things above (water, eating plan, exercise) for about 4 months and hit a plateau (I had lost about about 3-5 pounds and a few inches). That’s when I added the matcha green tea.

Within 2 weeks of starting to drink 2 matchas per day, I dropped 8 pounds! Sure, it may be mostly water loss, but — it never came back! Plus, I’ve continued to drop weight and inches slowly ever since. I’m doing more of a lifestyle change than a dramatic “weight loss plan,” so for me, slow is the way to go.

Weight loss benefits of matcha aside, since I’ve begun drinking matcha every day, I feel more awake and alert, but never jittery or hyper. It gives me a sense of calm and well being as well. It’s hard to describe, but I’m completely sold on matcha. I’ve never been a coffee drinker so I can’t compare matcha to coffee, but I can say that matcha makes me feel so much better than the daily Diet Mountain Dew habit I used to have.
