Today I’m talking leather pants for women over 40……..Is this done? Should it be done? Well, I sure hope so because I just bought a pair of (faux) leather pants!
The pants:
I got these Kut from the Kloth ‘Brigitte’ faux leather ankle skinniesΒ below.
I know, right? They look so great! Truth be told, they don’t look this perfect on me, but they don’t look too bad either. I like how they are faux leather 5-pocket jeans style pants and NOT faux leather liquid leggings. I’ve tried on a few pairs of the leather-like leggings before and they really are not flattering on me. These are just a tad looser around the hips and back side, and although they’re not leggings, they do have a bit of stretch. Another great feature of these pants is that they have a sort of light fleece-like lining, so they slide on and off easily and they don’t pinch your skin in places where it folds while you’re sitting or walking. Bonus! They look cropped on this model in the photos, but on me they go right down to the bottom of my ankle — perfect length.

The dilemma: How to style them?
I assumed when I got these that I’d just wear them with sweaters/cardigans and ankle boots. The problem was, I don’t have leather black ankle boots (just suede Toms wedges that didn’t look quite right with these pants), and I also don’t have a lot of cute shirts to wear under the cardigans, and these pants really screamed “white tee with black graphics” and black ankle boots. I do have a couple of graphic tees, but nothing just right. I ended up wearing my white-with-black Isaiah 40:31 tee and my white Adidas Superstars for a cute and casual look at a holiday party. This photo is in my classroom because I wore the same outfit to school one day the following week!
Can you see the leopard belt peaking out just a little? I think that and the superstars add just the right touch of fun.
Other possibilities:
Here are some other outfits I tried out before settling on the one above. The photos are dark because it was pushing 4:30 when I tried them on outside (I need to move to a house that has good indoor light for photos! LOL). We won’t even talk about the fact that the windchill was below zero and I could hardly make my fingers move to push buttons on the camera and set up the tripod…. #fashionbloggerproblems
Then I Googled it:
Here are some other great looks I found with…ahem….older ladies like myself wearing leather pants. I’m going to be trying to replicate a few of these.

Lucky for me, there are probably hundreds of existing blog posts on “how to style leather pants,” so the sky’s the limit as far as inspiration is concerned. π
