How (and how NOT) to work a white bag

I got this white bag awhile back and it’s really cute and a nice size. It’s sturdy and easy to carry. I like the simple style of it and it was pretty inexpensive. The problem is, I’ve had it for a few months now and I haven’t carried it out of the house yet. At all. It’s just been sitting there staring at me from my closet shelf, wondering when it’s going to get called up to the big show. Or at least a trip to the grocery store.

So I got it out and tried to style it with a casual, slouchy vibe. As you can see from these pics I snapped, this look is kind of…..well, meh.

Source Info:

  • Bag: Kelly & Katie Unlined Satchel, DSW (the white color is currently on sale at DSW for $19.94!)
  • Jeans: Mavi Alexa Skinny, $118 Amazon
  • Tee: Target, sold out (similar, $38)
  • Cardigan: Target, sold out (similar, $30)
  • Shoes: Steve Madden Ecentcl Cow Hair Animal Print Slip-ons, $59.95 Amazon

I don’t think it looks quite right with what I’m wearing here. The bag is more streamlined and my outfit is pretty slouchy. I think if I had gone more in this direction (below) it would have worked better.

I think it needs more clear, bright colors and a little more dressy than slouchy feel.  I can also see it with a monochromatic look, maybe gingham pants and a black top, like this (below):

Can you tell I’m really digging those BaubleBar ‘Crispin’ drop earrings. I’m seeing them everywhere right now and they come in almost every color. The black and white striped ones are especially cute!

So now that I’ve spent some time thinking through ways to style this white bag, I’m kind of excited to try them in real life. I don’t have all of the items I styled it with, but I do have some similar things that I think will hit the same general idea.

What are your thoughts on styling white bags?
