It’s fall, y’all! That means s’mores, comfort food, campfire s’mores, pumpkin spice everything, and…..an extra 5 pounds from all of the extra goodies? It’s so easy to loosen up the healthful eating reins a little and slack off some on working out this time of year. It may sound corny, but I’ve found that when I freshen up my workout routine and switch out my summer workout clothes for some fun fall colored ones, it’s not so hard to stay on the healthful eating wagon. Today I’m sharing some ways a fitness fashion fall refresh (I dare you to say THAT five times fast!) can help keep you motivated to stay healthy and fit — even with Halloween candy around.

Fall Fitness Refresh
If you live in the Midwest like I do, once you start rolling out of summer and into fall, it’s a breath of fresh air. I like to take advantage of the lower heat and humidity to do some outdoor activities that may have fallen by the wayside in the blistering heat of summer.
Fall’s the perfect time to amp up your fitness routine by adding in some outdoor activities:
- Go for a nature hike. If you can work in some hills, it’s all the better for your glutes and quads!
- Take a few trips up and down the bleachers at the football game on Friday night.
- Go for a long bike ride.
- Head to the pumpkin patch and walk out instead of taking the tractor ride. Carrying your pumpkins will hit those biceps.
- Go to an apple orchard and work those shoulders. Seems like the best apples are juuuust out of reach, so you can get some good stretching while picking.
- Two words: CORN MAZE! Find a big one and you’ll be taking a nice long walk, especially if you get lost a few times.
Since it gets dark earlier, you’ll likely be indoors and still awake for more time in the evening. I know people sometimes roll their eyes at this suggestion, but as you’re catching up on your Netflix to-watch list, it really is a great opportunity to squeeze in some push-ups and sit-ups.
Fall Fitness Fashion Refresh
It may sound shallow, and no, it doesn’t REALLY matter what you wear to work out, but cute workout clothes definitely motivate me to dress up, lace up, and show up at the gym.
Here’s what I look for in activewear when fall rolls around:
- Fall colors! Think burgundy, caramel, orange, mustard, charcoal, cream, and black.
- Fun prints like camo, leopard, and snake print.
- Longer lengths: in summer I’m all about knee-length and capri leggings and tights. In fall and winter I prefer longer capris, 7/8 length, and full-length tights.
- More layers: I always work out in tank tops, but getting to and from the gym comfortably or running errands afterward means adding layers for warmth. Jackets, sweatshirts, and vests are perfect for fall and winter gym trips.
They’ve Gotta WORK.
Stylish workout clothes motivate me to work out, but functional workout clothes allow me to work out harder and longer. That’s why it’s so important to find brands that look good and have the quality to match. In the middle of a tough workout, nobody wants to worry about pulling up leggings, too much “bounce,” or worst of all — see-through situations.
I am SUPER-picky about my workout clothes, but I do love to refresh with a new piece or two several times a year. Lululemon and Lorna Jane are my go-to brands for style and quality, but lately I’ve been working in a few others. For more budget friendly activewear that’s stylish and holds up well working out, I love Old Navy and Amazon’s Core 10 line (see my review of Core 10 here), as well as RBX Active. Just last week I picked up three new Adidas pieces for fall: take a look and see what you think!
Adidas Believe This Wanderlust Tights
The color (“Glow Orange”) and swirly, almost malachite-like print of these Adidas Wanderlust Tights was what caught my eye. They’re full-length tights, which are usually too long for me, but they hit right at the bottom of my ankles, so the length works.
The material is lightweight, but supportive, and the waist is high (no worries about tugging them up during a workout). These also come in black (Glow Blue/Black).
I’m wearing them with the Adidas Response Tank in charcoal gray. This tank’s lightweight mesh with a reflective Adidas logo on the back. It’s flowy, sweat-wicking, and super-cute. My slides are the ultra-cushy OOFOS recovery sport slides.
Adidas Originals Bellista Track Jacket
At first I was hesitant to try a cropped jacket, but this little beauty is now my favorite outerlayer to wear to and from the gym. It’s the Adidas Originals “Bellista” Track Jacket, and it also looks really cute with jeans and a tee!
Adidas Originals Outline Fleece Sweatshirt
When you’re looking for sweatshirts and jackets, don’t overlook the “Men’s” section. This men’s Adidas Originals Outline sweatshirt has a sweet design and is so soft. I got a men’s medium so it would be roomy, and it’s perfectly comfy. In case you were wondering, the three thick white stripes wrap all the way around the back. Super cool.
I wore this with my black Superstars in the photo above for a head-to-toe black and white look, but I also love wearing it with the same Old Navy striped leggings and these red Adidas Originals NMD shoes. That pop of red gets me every time.
